FARMVILLE,
Va. -- For the third-straight year, Longwood University
Athletics has reached an agreement with WVHL Radio, 92.9 FM
Kickin’ Country to broadcast all 31 men’s basketball games
locally in Farmville during the 2007-08 season.
The broadcast partnership with Kickin’ Country as the flagship
station will also insure that all games are available
worldwide via the Internet at www.longwoodlancers.com.

“Longwood Athletics is thrilled to renew our great partnership with Kickin’
Country,” said interim Director of Athletics Troy Austin. “WHVL provides our
men’s basketball program exposure in the community and region for what promises
to be a great season.”
92.9 FM Kickin’ Country is the Farmville area’s only 24-hour, seven
days a week modern country format serving the Heart of Virginia. At 6,000 watts,
WVHL covers a 10-county area, including Prince Edward, Buckingham, Cumberland,
Powhatan, Amelia, Nottoway, Lunenburg, Charlotte, Appomattox, and Campbell
counties. Kickin' Country is the CMT Affiliate for Southside Virginia with
programming that features today's top-charting modern country artists, and is
flavored with the best in country gold as well. WVHL also offers local news,
weather, sports, and information plus ABC Network news and sports.
“Kickin' Country is extremely excited that this will be our third
year partnering with Longwood University Athletics in broadcasting all 31 men's
basketball games for the 2007-08 season,” stated Sherry Massaro, Operations
Manager and Program Director. “It brings us great pleasure and pride to be the
flagship station for the Lancers.”
92.9 FM Kickin’ Country will also air “The Mike Gillian Show”
weekly, a 30-minute coach’s call-in show that will feature fifth-year Longwood
head coach Mike Gillian and hosted by assistant athletics director for media
relations Greg Prouty. It will be broadcast every Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
during the campaign, beginning November 7 and running until February 27.

“We are thrilled
to be associated with the Longwood Men's Basketball program for the third
consecutive season,” added Richard LeSueur, Kickin' Country's Sports Director.
“Head Coach Mike Gillian is putting Longwood Basketball on the map with his hard
work and determination. We look forward to broadcasting the Lancers entire
schedule in their first official year of NCAA Division I eligibility.”
Handling the play-by-play this year will be Scott Bacon who replace
Jon Schaeffer. Bacon has also taken over for Schaeffer as the voice of the
Lynchburg Hillcats, the Advanced-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Schaeffer has moved on to the Allentown (Pa.) IronPigs, the new AAA affiliate of
the Philadelphia Phillies.
Longwood opens the season on Friday night, November 9, hosting Navy
in Willett Hall on-campus in Farmville beginning at 7:30 p.m., pre-game on
Kickin’ Country at approximately 7:15 p.m.. |
